DORIC GREEN POWER – GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY AT BIOGAS PLANT IN GROSS VOLLSTEDT

London/Offenbach – The official groundbreaking ceremony for the biogas plant in Gross Vollstadt took place on 27th April 2009. Aside from a number of local farmers, the ceremony included all parties connected to  the project as well as official representatives from the community of Gross Vollstedt.

„With the biogas plant at the gates of our community, a valuable contribution will be made with regards to reducing our dependence on primary energy sources“, stated Heinz Volkmann, mayor of Gross Vollstedt, who has actively supported the project over the last two years. In addition, the biogas plant will represent a stable source of income for local farmers and help increase job security with customers, suppliers and service providers.

Approximately 4.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity will be produced annually at the plant, enough to supply about 1,300 households. Most of the heat produced will be sold to a neighbouring nursery and used in the growing of plants, thus replacing the heat previously generated by gas. The digestate (residue left following fermentation) will be used as fertiliser at local farms thereby reducing the use of artificial fertilisers.

The start-up of the plant is planned for the end of 2009.
